Agua Fresca - The Best Way to Stay Cool
We all know how much of a difference a cold drink can make on a hot day, and this weekend has been one of the toastiest yet! To combat the heat, we've been brewing up a recipe for Agua Fresca - a light Mexican drink made by blending up fruit with some lime, salt, or other flavors. It's the perfect way to rehydrate under the sun, sneak in a few vitamins, and play around in the kitchen without having to overheat!
1 cucumber (pipino), peeled and seeded
2-4 limes (depends how juicy)
3 inch piece of peeled chopped ginger (or more if you really like ginger like me)
Sprigs of fresh mint for garnish
8 long cucumber sticks
Grab your blender, (or immursion blend if you like) add all ingredients except mint and ice, add filtered water ¾ full and blend well! Then strain into your favorite pitcher and chill. When ready to enjoy, fill your glass full of ice, stir then pour in your juice and garnish with cucumber sticks and mint.
You can substitute the pineapple for the cucumber and create a drink that's a little sweeter, and absolutely divine! Just make sure to blend the pineapple core too so that the natural bromalain found in it can make its way into the agua fresca.
